Valve Guide for the cylinder head valvetrain of the 1.8L K-Series four-cylinder and 2.5L KV6 V6 petrol engines.

The valve guide is an interference fit in the cylinder head and supports the valve stem, holding the valve concentric with its seat through every opening and closing cycle. It also conducts heat out of the valve stem into the head. The valve stem seal locates over the top of the guide and meters the oil that reaches the stem.

A worn guide lets the stem move off centre, which leads to oil passing down the stem and to poor sealing at the valve seat. Guides are replaced with the head off and the valve seats recut to restore concentricity.
