Throttle Body and Motor - the electronically actuated intake throttle valve for the 2.2L common-rail direct-injection diesel engine, mounted at the intake manifold inlet within the air intake and exhaust gas recirculation control assembly.

On a diesel engine the intake throttle does not meter power output as it would on a petrol engine. It progressively restricts intake airflow on command from the engine control module to create the pressure differential that drives exhaust gas recirculation, and closes at shutdown to suppress run-on shudder. The actuating motor is integrated into the throttle housing and supplied as a single assembly.

The throttle body seals to the intake manifold face with a gasket; renew the gasket whenever the unit is disturbed.
