Rear Brake Disc - solid, 302 mm diameter, coated, diesel applications. Part of the rear brake discs and calipers assembly.
The disc mounts to the rear hub flange and forms the friction surface clamped by the rear caliper pads, converting wheel rotation into heat. It is a solid casting rather than a vented one: the thermal load carried by the rear axle on this application is low enough that internal cooling vanes are not required.
The hub boss, outer edges and inner faces carry a protective coating that holds off surface corrosion on the areas the pads never sweep clean. The coating is worn from the friction band itself during the first few brake applications.
Replace once the friction faces reach the wear limit, or earlier if the disc is scored, heat-cracked or outside run-out tolerance. Discs are replaced as an axle pair and bedded in with fresh pads.
