Temperature Sensor for the cylinder head on the Td4 2.0L four-cylinder 16V turbo diesel (BMW M47).

The sensor threads into the cylinder head and reads engine coolant temperature at the coolant gallery, passing the signal to the engine control module. The ECM uses that reading for fuelling and injection timing correction, glow plug control, cooling fan operation and the coolant temperature display.

A drifting or failed sensor commonly shows as poor cold starting, excessive smoke on start-up, erratic cooling fan behaviour or an implausible temperature gauge reading.
