Front Brake Disc - Coated - vented, 277 mm diameter. Part of the front brake discs and calipers assembly.
The disc mounts to the front hub flange and provides the friction surface clamped by the front caliper pads under braking. Internal vanes between the two friction faces draw cooling air radially through the disc, carrying heat away so the pads and caliper stay within working temperature and resist fade on long descents or repeated braking.
This variant carries a protective anti-corrosion coating on the non-friction surfaces - hub bell, vanes and outer edge - which slows the surface rust that forms quickly on bare cast iron, particularly where the disc is visible through an open wheel. Any coating carried onto the friction faces is worn away over the first few stops as the pads bed in.
Nominal friction-face thickness is 21 mm, overall height 51.2 mm including the hub boss. Replace once wear reaches the 18 mm minimum, or earlier if the disc is scored, heat-cracked or outside run-out limits. Replace as an axle pair and bed in with fresh pads.
