Frequently asked questions

What is the SEE100200 brake caliper seal kit?
SEE100200 is a brake caliper seal kit for the Freelander 1, listed for vehicles up to VIN YA999999. It is the service kit used to reseal an existing caliper instead of fitting a new one.
How do I know if I need this kit or SEE100300?
It comes down to your VIN. SEE100200 covers Freelander 1 up to VIN YA999999. SEE100300 covers vehicles from VIN 1A000001. The caliper changed part way through Freelander 1 production, so the kits are listed separately and should not be substituted.
Why do Freelander 1 caliper seals fail?
Caliper seals harden and perish with age and heat, and moisture drawn into old brake fluid corrodes the bore behind them. On a Freelander 1 the usual symptoms are a caliper that drags, a soft pedal, or fluid weeping around the piston.
Can I fit new seals if the caliper bore is pitted?
No. New seals only work against a clean, smooth bore. If the Freelander 1 caliper bore is pitted or corroded the seal will not hold pressure and the caliper needs replacing. Inspect the bore and piston before ordering a seal kit.
