Rear Brake Shoe Set for the rear drum brake assembly.

Each shoe carries a bonded friction lining and is forced outward against the inner face of the brake drum by the wheel cylinder pistons when the brake pedal is applied; the return springs retract the shoes as the pedal is released. The same shoes provide the parking brake function, expanded mechanically by the handbrake cable and lever.

Supplied as a complete rear axle set. Brake drums are supplied separately.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Brake Shoe Set – Rear used for?
This rear brake shoe set fits the rear drum brakes on the Freelander 1 (1996-2006). Each ATE shoe carries a bonded friction lining that is forced against the inside of the brake drum by the wheel cylinder when you brake. The same shoes also provide the handbrake function.
Is this a complete set for both rear wheels?
Yes, this rear brake shoe set covers the rear drum brakes as a set. Brake shoes should be renewed together across the axle so braking and the parking brake stay balanced side to side.
Which Freelander 1 vehicles do these shoes fit?
These rear drum brake shoes fit the Freelander 1 up to VIN YA999999, across all engines. Confirm your VIN before ordering, since later vehicles can differ.
When should rear brake shoes be replaced?
Rear brake shoes should be replaced when the friction lining wears thin, because worn linings reduce braking and weaken the handbrake. Contaminated or cracked linings should also be renewed.
