Rear Brake Shoe Return Spring for the rear drum brake assembly.

The spring works between the brake shoes, pulling them back onto their stops and off the drum friction surface as soon as hydraulic pressure is released. It is what sets the running clearance between lining and drum, so a stretched, fatigued or broken spring leaves the shoes dragging - producing binding, heat build-up and rapid, uneven lining wear.

Fitted as an axle set: replace the springs on both sides of the axle whenever the rear brake shoes are renewed.
