The cooler regulates automatic transmission fluid (ATF) temperature, dissipating heat generated within the gearbox to hold the fluid within its operating range and protect the transmission under sustained load. It forms part of the transmission cooling circuit, with fluid circulated through the cooler and returned to the gearbox.
