Gear Lever Gaiter - flexible boot that seals around the gear shift selector rod where it passes through the floor into the transmission tunnel.

The gaiter closes the opening around the selector rod, keeping water, road spray, dust and grit out of the shift mechanism and stopping draughts and transmission noise entering the cabin. A perished or split gaiter lets contamination reach the selector linkage, which stiffens the gear change and accelerates wear at the linkage pivots.
