Genuine Part

Parking brake operating lever (shoe expander) for the rear drum-in-disc parking brake assembly.

The lever is mounted to the parking brake shoe and connects to the parking brake cable. Operating the handbrake rotates the lever, which forces the shoes outward against the drum surface machined into the centre of the rear brake disc.

It works together with the parking brake adjuster, which sets the shoe-to-drum running clearance.

Frequently asked questions

What does the LR001172 parking brake operating lever do?
The parking brake operating lever, or shoe expander, is fitted to the rear drum-in-disc parking brake. It connects to the parking brake cable; pulling the handbrake rotates the lever, which forces the shoes outward against the drum surface machined into the centre of the rear brake disc.
Which vehicle does this parking brake lever fit?
This lever fits the Freelander 2 (2006-2014) with the rear drum-in-disc parking brake, up to VIN CH999999. Confirm your VIN falls before that break before ordering.
How does the parking brake operating lever work with the adjuster?
The lever works together with the parking brake adjuster, which sets the shoe-to-drum running clearance. The lever applies the shoes when the handbrake is pulled, while the adjuster keeps them at the correct rest clearance. A seized or worn lever can leave the handbrake weak.
