Handbrake cable from the handbrake actuation assembly, linking the handbrake lever to the transmission brake mounted on the transfer box rear output.
Pulling the lever draws the inner cable, which rotates the expander lever on the transmission brake backplate and forces the shoes outward against the drum. The outer sheath is anchored at both ends so that lever travel is converted into shoe movement rather than lost in the run. A stretched inner cable or a seized sheath shows up as excessive lever travel and a parking brake that will not hold on a gradient.
