Handbrake Cable - right-hand side cable in the parking brake linkage.

The cable runs from the handbrake lever compensator to the actuating lever at the right-hand rear brake, applying the parking brake mechanically and independently of the hydraulic service brake circuit.

The inner cable stretches and corrodes inside its outer sheath over time, producing excessive lever travel and uneven application between the two sides. Because both sides work through a common compensator, cables are normally renewed as a pair so that the parking brake applies evenly.
