This oil seal is the gearbox input (primary) shaft seal for the MT82 6-speed manual fitted to the Defender (2007-2016, from VIN 7A000001). It seals around the input shaft where it enters the gearbox, keeping transmission oil in and dirt out. A failed seal typically leaks oil onto the clutch.
