Clutch Master Cylinder for the hydraulic clutch actuation circuit on 1.8 4-cylinder petrol engines with manual transmission, right-hand drive.

Mounted on the bulkhead behind the clutch pedal, the master cylinder converts pedal travel into hydraulic pressure and feeds it through the clutch pipe to the slave cylinder, which releases the clutch. Fluid is drawn in through the supply port from the reservoir; the internal piston, seals and return spring govern pedal feel and full disengagement travel.

A cylinder leaking past its seals, or one that will not build pressure, gives a sinking pedal, a dragging clutch and difficulty selecting gears. Bleed the clutch circuit after fitting.
