Radiator is the primary heat exchanger of the Engine Cooling System, transferring heat from the engine coolant to the air drawn through the front cooling pack.

Coolant leaves the engine through the thermostat housing and enters the radiator via the top hose, passes through the core matrix where it gives up its heat, and returns to the water pump inlet through the bottom hose. The unit mounts in the front-end carrier alongside the air-conditioning condenser and the charge-air and transmission coolers, with the fan module drawing air through the stack when road speed is insufficient for ram airflow.

Replacement is normally driven by core corrosion, cracking at the plastic end tanks or their crimped seams, or frontal impact damage.

Refill with the correct coolant specification and bleed the system completely on refitting; a trapped air pocket will produce erratic gauge behaviour and localised overheating. Inspect the mounting bushes, the upper and lower hoses and the fan cowl for damage while access is available.

Frequently asked questions

What does the LR162110 radiator do?
The LR162110 radiator cools the engine coolant on the New Defender L663, Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. Hot coolant flows through its core, where airflow draws off the heat before the coolant returns to the engine. It sits at the front of the vehicle behind the grille.
Which engines does this radiator fit?
This radiator fits a wide engine range on the Range Rover L405 and Sport L494, typically the 2.0 litre petrol, 3.0 litre V6 diesel and supercharged petrol, 4.4 litre V8 diesel and 5.0 litre V8 petrol. On the New Defender L663 it suits the 5.0 litre V8 petrol. Confirm by VIN.
How do I confirm this radiator fits my vehicle?
Confirm by VIN and engine. This radiator covers the New Defender L663 from VIN M2000001, the Range Rover L405 from 2013 to 2022 and the Range Rover Sport L494 from 2014 to 2022. Match your engine variant to the fitment list before ordering.
What are the signs a radiator needs replacing?
Signs a radiator needs replacing include coolant leaks, overheating, low coolant level, and staining around the core on the Range Rover L405 or Sport L494. A failing radiator can cause engine overheating, so address leaks promptly.
