Choosing by scale

Scale is the first thing to settle, because it sets the size, the level of detail and how a piece fits a collection. The larger scales carry the most detail and opening parts and work as a centrepiece, while the smaller scales suit multi vehicle sets and display scenes. The four scales below are the common Land Rover collector sizes.

Diecast collector models or toys for play

The range splits into two groups. Diecast scale models are collector and display pieces with fine detail and small parts, made to be looked at rather than played with hard. The toys are made for use: battery powered ride-on cars built for outdoor play, remote control models for older children and hobbyists, and build kits that go together step by step. As a rough guide, diecast suits collectors and gift givers, ride-ons suit younger children, and RC and build kits suit older kids and adult enthusiasts. Diecast models are not intended for very young children because of the small parts.

Which Land Rover models come in miniature

Most of the marque is represented somewhere in the range. Expect the classic Series 1, 2 and 3, the Defender 90 and 110, Discovery 1 through to Discovery 5, Range Rover Classic up to the L405, and the modern Evoque, with military, heritage and rally editions appearing alongside the road models.
