The Land Rover Series I was produced from 1948 to 1958 on a steel ladder-frame chassis with aluminium body panels. It was offered in short wheelbase and long wheelbase configurations across four wheelbase lengths: 80 inch (1948 to 1953), 86 inch (1954 to 1956 SWB), 88 inch (1956 to 1958 SWB), 107 inch (1954 to 1956 LWB), and 109 inch (1956 to 1958 LWB). Engine variants span the original 1.6 litre petrol (1948 to 1951), the 2.0 litre petrol that replaced it from 1952, and a 2.0 litre diesel introduced in late production from 1957 to 1958.
