What fits: Series I produced from 1948 to 1958. All wheelbase variants (SWB and LWB). Petrol engines: 1.6 L (1948 to 1951) and 2.0 L (1952 to 1958). Diesel engine: 2.0 L (1957 to 1958 late production).
Parts for the Land Rover Series I, produced from 1948 to 1958. This collection covers all wheelbase configurations: 80, 86, 88, 107, and 109 inch. Parts are stocked for the 1.6 L and 2.0 L petrol engines. A 2.0 L diesel was available in late production (1957 to 1958).
The Land Rover Series I was produced from 1948 to 1958 on a steel ladder-frame chassis with aluminium body panels. It was offered in short wheelbase and long wheelbase configurations across four wheelbase lengths: 80 inch (1948 to 1953), 86 inch (1954 to 1956 SWB), 88 inch (1956 to 1958 SWB), 107 inch (1954 to 1956 LWB), and 109 inch (1956 to 1958 LWB). Body styles included station wagon, pick-up, soft-top, and hard-top.
Engine variants span the original 1.6 litre petrol (1948 to 1951), the 2.0 litre petrol that replaced it from 1952, and a 2.0 litre diesel introduced in late production from 1957 to 1958. Drivetrain is a 4-speed manual gearbox with a separate two-speed transfer box providing high and low range. This collection covers all configurations. It does not cover the Series II, Series IIA, or Series III, which are available separately in the Land Rover Series 2 and 3 Parts collection.
If you are unsure whether a part number applies to your exact wheelbase or engine variant, use the chassis number to confirm fitment before ordering. Contact Budget Parts with your chassis number and the part reference for a fitment check.
Production year ranges, wheelbase dimensions, and engine variants confirmed against the Hagerty UK Series I buying guide.
The catalogue spans the full breadth of Series I components, from body and chassis repair through to drivetrain, electrical, and service items. The categories most relevant to Series I ownership and restoration are listed below.
Repair panels, floorpan sections, crossmember sections, bulkhead repair patches, body fixings, rivets, and structural fasteners. Corrosion in floor and sill areas is the most common structural problem on Series I vehicles.
Land Rover body and chassis parts →Wheel brake cylinders, master cylinder components, brake shoes, brake drums, and associated seals and hardware. The Series I uses a single-circuit hydraulic braking system. Seals and cylinders are the most commonly replaced brake components.
Land Rover brake parts →Leaf springs, spring bushes, shock absorber bushes, and swivel housing seals. SWB and LWB configurations use different spring rates and lengths. Confirm your wheelbase before ordering leaf spring assemblies.
Land Rover suspension parts →Oil seals, gaskets, crankshaft seals, and engine fasteners for the 1.6 L and 2.0 L petrol engines and the 2.0 L diesel. The petrol and diesel variants share some components but differ in head gasket specification and seal dimensions.
Land Rover engine parts →Lucas-type electrical connectors, Lucar connectors, fuses, switches, and wiring harness components. The Series I uses a positive-earth 12-volt electrical system. Many components are shared with other pre-1960 Lucas-equipped British vehicles.
Land Rover electrical parts →Wiring loom components, cable runs, harness sections, and ancillary wiring parts compatible with the positive-earth Lucas system used on Series I vehicles.
Land Rover cables and wiring →Steering and drivetrain: Track rod ends, swivel housing seals, joint washers, transfer box components, and drivetrain fasteners. Swivel housing wear is a common service item on high-mileage vehicles.
Service and hardware: Bolts, studs, washers, lock washers, and other fasteners in BSF, UNF, and metric thread sizes. Many Series I fasteners use Whitworth or BSF threads. Confirm thread standard before ordering where relevant.
Quality TiersParts in this collection are labelled in three quality tiers.
Genuine parts are original Land Rover-branded components sourced from the official parts supply chain. These are scarce for Series I applications and command a price premium. They are appropriate for show-standard restorations or where provenance matters.
OEM parts are manufactured by the same suppliers that produced components to the original specification, without the Land Rover brand label. For most Series I applications, OEM is the practical choice for mechanical and drivetrain components.
Aftermarket parts are manufactured to fit the application but may not be produced by the original supplier. Quality varies by component category. Aftermarket is appropriate for body hardware, fasteners, rubber seals, and other high-wear items where cost over a full restoration project is a factor.
For electrical components on a positive-earth system, confirm compatibility regardless of quality tier before ordering.

FAQYes. This collection covers all Series I configurations produced between 1948 and 1958, including the 80-inch, 86-inch, 88-inch, 107-inch, and 109-inch wheelbase variants. Some parts, particularly leaf springs and body panels, are specific to either the short wheelbase or long wheelbase configuration. Product listings indicate fitment where a part applies to one configuration only. If you are unsure, contact Budget Parts with your chassis number and part reference for confirmation.
The Series I used a 1.6 litre four-cylinder petrol engine from 1948 to 1951. From 1952 onwards, a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine replaced it. A 2.0 litre diesel variant was introduced in 1957 and used through to the end of production in 1958. Some components including gaskets, oil seals, and head bolts are specific to either the petrol or diesel configuration. Always confirm which engine your vehicle carries before ordering engine-related parts. The vehicle chassis number and any accompanying Commission Book entry will confirm the factory engine specification.
The components that require most attention on Series I vehicles fall into four main areas. Brake seals and wheel cylinders deteriorate over time and are typically the highest priority safety item on any vehicle that has been in storage or light use. Swivel housing seals and joint washers on the front axle wear with mileage and should be inspected as part of any drivetrain service. Electrical connectors and fuses on the positive-earth Lucas system are frequently corroded or degraded on unrestored vehicles. Body and floor fixings, rivets, and structural fasteners corrode in the sill and floor areas and are a common first stage of any structural restoration.
Genuine parts carry the original Land Rover brand and are appropriate for show-standard restorations where provenance is a priority. OEM parts are made to the original specification by the component manufacturer, without the Land Rover label, and are the practical choice for most mechanical and drivetrain applications. Aftermarket parts are made to fit the application and are appropriate for fasteners, rubber seals, body hardware, and other high-wear items where cost across a full restoration is a consideration. All three tiers are labelled clearly in the product grid.

The most reliable method is to use your vehicle chassis number. Series I chassis numbers encode production year and factory configuration. Contact Budget Parts with the chassis number and the part reference number you are considering and a fitment check can be carried out before you order. For vehicles where the chassis plate is illegible or missing, a Commission Book entry or period registration document will provide equivalent confirmation of the original factory specification.
