Valve Guide A precision sleeve pressed into the cylinder head that supports and locates the inlet valve stem, holding the valve concentric with its seat throughout the lift cycle.
The guide maintains accurate valve alignment, conducts heat away from the valve stem into the cylinder head casting, and meters the lubricating oil that travels down the stem. It serves the inlet valve position in the four-cylinder petrol cylinder head.
Worn guides allow the valve stem to move laterally, leading to increased oil consumption, poor valve sealing and accelerated seat wear. Renewal restores the correct stem-to-guide clearance and proper valve seating.
