Drive Belt Tensioner - spring-loaded tensioner pulley assembly in the auxiliary (accessory) drive belt system of the 2.7 Td6 and 3.0 V6 turbo diesel engines.

Mounted on the front face of the engine, it applies constant tension to the auxiliary drive belt that turns the belt-driven engine accessories, taking up belt stretch and damping the load fluctuations that occur as engine speed changes.

A weakened tensioner spring or a worn pulley bearing allows the belt to slip, which shows up as squeal on start-up, rapid belt wear and, in the worst case, a thrown belt.
