Glow Plug - cold-start pre-heating system of the 2.0L Ingenium AJ200 four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

Threads into the cylinder head, one per cylinder, with the sheathed heating element projecting into the combustion chamber. The glow plug control module energises the plugs before cranking and holds them on for a period after start-up, raising in-cylinder temperature so that compression ignition is reliable when cold and cutting cold-start white smoke and emissions.

A failed plug typically shows as extended cranking in cold weather, a rough or misfiring first few seconds after start, and a stored glow system fault. Glow plugs are renewed as a complete set so that heating performance stays even across all cylinders.
