Steering Gear - the rack-and-pinion assembly of the electric power assisted steering (EPAS) system.

The gear converts rotation of the steering column into lateral movement of the rack, which acts through the track rods to steer the front wheels. Power assistance is integral to the unit: an electric motor applies axial force to the rack through a reduction gear under the control of the power steering control module, giving speed-sensitive assistance and a variable ratio across the rack travel.

Built for left-hand drive applications and not interchangeable with the right-hand drive gear. Steering alignment must be checked and reset after fitting.
