Aftermarket Part

Drag link for the steering linkage, connecting the steering box drop arm to the steering arm on the front axle.

The drag link converts the arc described by the drop arm into lateral movement at the swivel hub, steering the road wheels; the track rod then carries that movement across to the opposite side. Wear in the drag link ball joints shows up as free play at the steering wheel and wandering under way.

Steering geometry should be checked and the steering wheel re-centred after fitting.

Frequently asked questions

What is the drag link (NRC3226) and what does it do in the steering system?
The drag link connects the steering box drop arm to the steering arm on the front axle. It converts the arc described by the drop arm into lateral movement at the swivel hub to steer the road wheels. The track rod then carries that movement across to the opposite side.
What causes a drag link to wear out, and what does it feel like when it does?
Wear develops in the drag link ball joints. Failed or worn joints produce free play at the steering wheel and a vague, wandering feel under way.
Does anything need to be checked after fitting a new drag link?
Steering geometry should be checked and the steering wheel re-centred after fitting. This is stated in the product notes and standard practice for any drag link replacement on these vehicles.
Which vehicles does NRC3226 fit?
It fits the Land Rover Discovery 1 from VIN FA393361 to WA799999, and the Range Rover Classic from 1986 to VIN HA610293 (early) and from VIN JA610294 through 1994 (later). Confirm your VIN is within these windows before ordering.
