Aftermarket Part
Aftermarket: Quality alternative. This is a quality alternative, designed to fit and function like the original part, often at a more competitive price.
Track Rod End ball joint for the front steering linkage, forming the articulating connection between the steering rod and the steering arm on the swivel housing.

The tapered pin seats into the steering arm eye and is secured with a castle nut and split pin, while the threaded shank screws into the rod tube and is held by a pinch clamp. Because the rod carries one right-hand and one left-hand threaded end, rotating the tube adjusts the effective length and sets the front wheel alignment. This is the right-hand thread version and is fitted with a grease nipple, so the joint can be recharged with grease at service intervals rather than running sealed for life.

Wear in the ball joint shows up as free play at the steering wheel, wandering under way, and uneven or feathered wear across the front tyres. Track rod ends are normally renewed in matched pairs and the toe setting checked afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What does the RTC5867GR track rod end do?
The RTC5867GR track rod end is the ball joint connecting the steering rod to the steering arm on the swivel housing of a Land Rover Series 3. It lets the steering pass movement to the wheel while the joint articulates. This is the right-hand thread version with a grease nipple.
What does the greaser version mean?
The grease nipple lets you recharge the track rod end with grease at service, rather than running it sealed for life. That suits older Series vehicles where periodic greasing is part of routine maintenance. This is the right-hand thread version, axle suffix E.
What are the signs a track rod end needs replacing?
A worn track rod end usually shows as free play at the steering wheel, wandering on the road, and uneven or feathered wear across the front tyres. Track rod ends are normally renewed in matched pairs, with the toe alignment checked afterwards.
