Front MacPherson Strut - Right-Hand Side for the front suspension assembly, in the configuration without adaptive damping.

The strut combines the damper and the upper wheel-locating suspension member in one unit: the damper body carries the steering knuckle at its base, locates the top of the assembly at the body mounting, and provides the seat for the coil spring. It controls wheel movement and body motion while also forming the steering axis, so its condition affects both ride quality and steering feel.

This is the passive unit and is not interchangeable with an adaptive damping strut, which carries the damper control solenoid and its wiring and is monitored by the suspension control module. A worn strut gives poor damping and float over undulations, nose dive under braking, cupped front tyre wear and fluid weeping down the damper body. Renew in pairs across the axle and reset front wheel alignment afterwards.
