Frequently asked questions

What does the tie rod do?
The tie rod, or steering connecting rod, links the steering rack to the wheel hub and transmits steering input to turn the front wheels. It fits both the right and left sides on these models and is a key steering and safety component.
Do I need one tie rod or a pair?
This tie rod fits either side, so check whether you need one or a pair. Many workshops replace both tie rods together when one is worn, since they age at a similar rate, and follow up with a wheel alignment.
Which models and VINs does this tie rod fit?
This tie rod fits the Discovery Sport from 2015 (from VIN LH849027) and Range Rover Evoque L551 from 2019, in both right and left positions. Check your VIN on the Discovery Sport, as earlier builds may differ.
What are the signs of a worn tie rod?
Replace a tie rod if you notice steering play, knocking over bumps, uneven tyre wear or a failed MOT on steering. Worn tie rods affect steering precision and alignment, so have the tracking reset after fitting.
