Steering Gear Ball Joint - articulated joint in the steering linkage, located at the steering gear end of the tie rod.

It transfers the linear travel of the steering rack into the tie rod while allowing the joint to articulate as the suspension moves through its range. The same part serves both the left- and right-hand sides.

Wear shows as free play at the steering wheel, vague or imprecise steering response, or a knock over uneven surfaces. Front wheel alignment should be checked once the joint has been replaced.
