Rear Shock Absorber for the rear suspension damper assembly. The unit is handed neutral - the same damper serves both the left- and right-hand rear positions.

The damper is bolted between the rear suspension arm and its body mounting, converting suspension movement into heat to control body and wheel motion and keep the tyre loaded over uneven surfaces. It works alongside the road spring, the upper and lower mounting bushes and the bump stop; the mounting bushes should be inspected whenever a damper is renewed, and dampers are always replaced as an axle pair so damping stays balanced side to side.

This is the passive, non-adaptive damper, for vehicles built without electronically controlled adaptive damping - it carries no solenoid valve and no wiring connector. It is supplied as a sealed, gas-pressurised unit and cannot be serviced, adjusted or recharged.
