Front Adaptive Damper for the CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension) adaptive damping system, 4.0 litre V8.

The damper controls spring and body movement at the front axle and carries a solenoid-operated valve that the suspension control module switches between a soft and a firm damping rate. The module reads road and body inputs and selects the rate continuously, so this damper is an electrical component as well as a mechanical one - its connector and loom must be reconnected on fitting.

It is specific to vehicles built with the adaptive system. A conventional damper fitted in its place leaves the control circuit open and removes adaptive control on that corner. Dampers should be replaced as an axle pair so that damping rates remain matched side to side.
