Shock Absorber - Front - hydraulic damper in the front suspension assembly.

The damper is mounted between the front suspension arm and its upper mounting on the body structure, and controls the rate at which the front road spring compresses and rebounds. This keeps the tyre loaded against the road surface and limits body movement under braking and cornering; the spring carries the vehicle weight, the damper controls its motion.

Dampers are replaced in axle pairs so damping rates stay matched from side to side.
