Rear Shock Absorber - hydraulic damper unit in the rear suspension assembly, working alongside the rear coil spring and its upper mounting to control body movement.

The damper resists spring oscillation after the wheel travels over an obstacle, keeping the tyre in contact with the road surface and controlling body roll, pitch and rebound. It locates between the axle-side lower mounting and the upper mounting in the body, and is a wearing item whose deterioration is gradual - decline in damping is usually noticed as float over undulations, increased nose dive under braking, or uneven tyre wear.

Specified for the passive, non-adaptive damping configuration; it is not intended for installations using electronically controlled adaptive damping. Replace in pairs across the axle so damping stays balanced side to side.
