Frequently asked questions

What is the RPM500200G rear damper boot kit?
RPM500200G is the rear shock absorber boot service kit for air sprung Discovery 3, Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport L320 models. It's a BWI part. The boot's job is to keep grit and water off the damper rod so the rod seal survives.
How do I know if my vehicle needs these?
Look at the rear dampers with the vehicle raised. Split, hardened, collapsed or missing boots all mean replacement. If there's an oily film running down the damper body as well, the rod seal has already gone and the damper itself needs attention, not just the boot.
How many do I need to order?
Two per vehicle, one for each rear damper. There's little point fitting one and leaving the other, since both sides have seen identical exposure to road spray and the access work is much the same on each corner.
Which VIN ranges does this cover?
Discovery 3 from VIN 6A392100 to 9A999999, Discovery 4 from VIN AA000001, and Range Rover Sport L320 from VIN 6A957897 to 9A999999 and from VIN AA000001, all with air spring suspension. Quote your VIN when ordering, because the boot follows the damper variant rather than the model year.
Can the old boots be reused?
Usually not. By the time a rear damper is off the vehicle, the original boot is normally perished or torn, and refitting a tired boot puts the new damper's rod seal at risk. These are treated as replace-on-removal items on air sprung Land Rovers.
