Brand Girling
Shock Absorber for the rear suspension on vehicles fitted with electronic air suspension, mounting between the chassis and the rear axle. Fits either side.

On an air-sprung axle the air spring carries the vehicle load and sets ride height, while the damper controls the rate at which the axle moves, absorbing the spring's oscillation and resisting axle movement over uneven ground. The two work as a pair at each corner, and damper condition determines body control rather than standing height.

Worn dampers on an air-sprung vehicle typically show as float or wallow after a bump rather than as a ride height change. Dampers should be renewed in axle pairs so damping is matched left to right.
