Rear Shock Absorber for vehicles built with adaptive damping. It forms part of the rear suspension damper assembly, working with the road spring, spring seat and upper mount to control body movement and wheel travel.

Unlike a passive damper, this unit carries an electronically controlled valve that varies its damping rate on command from the adaptive damping control module, which adjusts each corner continuously in response to wheel and body movement and to the selected drive mode. The solenoid is fed through a dedicated connector at the damper body; that connection must be remade on installation, otherwise the system logs a fault and reverts to a fixed damping rate.

Dampers are replaced in axle pairs so that left and right damping characteristics stay matched.
