Fuel Vapour Valve (Purge Control Valve) - electrically operated solenoid valve in the evaporative emission control (EVAP) system, for supercharged petrol applications.

It sits in the purge line between the charcoal canister and the engine inlet tract. Under engine-management control the valve is pulse-width modulated to meter stored fuel vapour from the canister into the intake, where it is drawn in and burnt as part of the normal charge. When de-energised the valve seals closed, isolating the canister from the engine at rest and during the fuel tank leak-detection test.

This valve is specific to supercharged engines (3.0L V6 supercharged and 5.0L AJ133 V8 supercharged) and is not interchangeable with the naturally aspirated valve. Not for flex-fuel (alcohol) fuel systems. A valve that sticks or leaks internally typically presents as an emissions-related fault code, an unstable idle, and a purge-flow or tank-pressure diagnostic failure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the LR172648LR fuel vapour valve and what does it do?
The LR172648LR is a fuel vapour valve for supercharged petrol Land Rover and Range Rover models, part of the evaporative emissions system. It manages fuel vapour from the tank to stop it venting to atmosphere. This is a Genuine Land Rover part.
Which engines and models does this valve fit?
The LR172648LR fits supercharged petrol engines only: the 3.0L V6 SC and 5.0L AJ133 V8. It's used on the Discovery 5, New Defender L663 (5.0 V8), Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494 and Velar. It's less CND/USA and less KOR, and not for flex-fuel systems.
What does not for flex-fuel mean for this valve?
Not for flex-fuel means the LR172648LR doesn't suit vehicles built for alcohol or flex-fuel systems, or the CND/USA and KOR markets. The evaporative system differs on those variants. Check your market specification and engine before ordering.
How do I confirm this valve fits my vehicle?
The LR172648LR fits supercharged 3.0 V6 or 5.0 V8 petrol Discovery 5, New Defender L663, Range Rover L405, Range Rover Sport L494 and Velar, from the VIN breaks in the fitment notes. Confirm your engine is supercharged petrol and check your market before ordering.
