What is the ERR2846LR key used for?

The ERR2846LR is a crankshaft woodruff key for the Rover V8 petrol engine. It is the small half-moon steel key that locks the crankshaft timing gear and front pulley to the crankshaft so they turn together without slipping.

Where does the woodruff key sit?

It sits in the keyway cut into the nose of the crankshaft. The timing gear and pulley slide over the crank and locate on this key, which stops them rotating on the shaft under load.

Can the key be reused?

Fit a new woodruff key rather than reusing the old one. A worn or damaged key can let the pulley or timing gear move on the crank, which throws out valve timing, so it is cheap insurance to renew it during the job.

Which engines does it fit?

This fits the Rover V8 petrol (3.5, 3.9, 4.0 and 4.6) across the Defender, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. Confirm your engine before ordering.
