Frequently asked questions

What is the TF3857 half shaft set used for?

The TF3857 is a heavy-duty front half shaft set, supplied as a pair, for the Defender, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic. It transfers drive from the front differential to the front wheel hubs.

How many half shafts come in the TF3857 kit?

The TF3857 comes as a pair, covering both front half shafts in one purchase. That's what you need for a complete front axle half shaft service.

Does the TF3857 cover all Defender production years?

It covers Defenders built from 1987 to 2006. Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic applications are also covered, but always confirm your build year against the specific model range before ordering.

What causes front half shafts like the TF3857 to fail?

Front half shafts typically wear at the CV or universal joint ends from repeated steering and articulation loads. Symptoms include clunking on take-up, vibration, or visible play, and a failed shaft can cause total loss of drive to that wheel.
