Driveshaft Retainer Circlip locks the inner end of the front driveshaft into the differential inside the front axle case.

The clip springs into a groove on the driveshaft stub to hold it positively in the differential and stop the shaft working loose in service. It is normally renewed whenever the driveshaft is refitted.

What does the driveshaft retainer circlip do?
The driveshaft retainer circlip locks the inner end of the front driveshaft into the differential inside the front axle case. It springs into a groove on the driveshaft stub to hold the shaft positively in place and stop it working loose in service.
Does the circlip need replacing every time?
Yes, it's normally renewed whenever the driveshaft is refitted. The clip loses tension once it's been sprung out of its groove, so reusing it risks the driveshaft not locking securely. Fit a fresh circlip each time the shaft comes out.
How many circlips do I need per driveshaft?
One circlip retains each driveshaft at the differential. If you're removing both front driveshafts, order one clip per shaft. They're small and single-use, so a spare on hand avoids a stalled job.
