Throttle body with integrated actuator motor for the 2.2L DW12 common-rail diesel engine.

Mounted in the intake tract ahead of the inlet manifold, the throttle plate is positioned by the electric motor under engine control module command. On this diesel it is not used for load control as on a petrol engine: it throttles intake air to raise the pressure differential that drives exhaust gas recirculation flow, and closes on shutdown to stop air entering the cylinders so the engine stops without shake.

A seized or carboned throttle plate, or a failed motor, typically shows as an EGR or intake-related fault code, rough running, and a harsh engine shutdown.
