Coolant Temperature Sensor mounted in the cylinder head coolant gallery, part of the engine cooling and engine management system.

The sensor is a thermistor whose resistance varies with coolant temperature. The engine control module reads this signal to set fuelling and ignition timing during warm-up, to control the cooling fan and thermostat, and to drive the temperature gauge and overheat warning.

Used across the Ingenium engine family, covering the 1.5L three-cylinder, 2.0L four-cylinder and 3.0L six-cylinder petrol and diesel units.

A degraded sensor commonly shows as erratic or implausible temperature readings, poor cold-start running and raised fuel consumption, or a cooling fan that runs constantly.
