Front Brake Pad Wear Sensor Wire from the front brake pad wear warning circuit.

The sensor wire is routed into a slot in the front brake pad friction material and connects to the vehicle wiring harness. When the pads wear down to the sensor loop, the disc severs the wire and breaks the circuit, triggering the brake pad wear warning at the instrument cluster.

The wire is consumed by the wear event and is renewed together with the front brake pads.

Frequently asked questions

What does the front brake pad wear sensor wire do?
The front brake pad wear sensor wire routes into a slot in the front brake pad friction material. When the pads wear down to the sensor loop, the disc severs the wire and breaks the circuit, triggering the brake pad wear warning at the instrument cluster.
How many wear sensor wires are needed at the front?
Typically one front wear sensor wire is fitted on the front axle, and it's renewed whenever the front brake pads are replaced. The wire is consumed by wear, so a new pad set should go on with a fresh sensor.
When should the front wear sensor be replaced?
Replace the front wear sensor wire with every front brake pad change, or once the pad wear warning has triggered. A severed or already-triggered sensor won't clear the dashboard warning, so a new one is needed to restore the circuit.
Which vehicles does this front wear sensor fit?
This front brake pad wear sensor wire fits the Discovery Sport (2015 onwards) and Range Rover Evoque L538 (2012-2018). Confirm the front axle application with your VIN, since sensor length can differ between front and rear.
