Leak Detection Pump - DMTL (Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage) unit for the fuel tank evaporative emission (EVAP) system.
The module sits between the charcoal canister and atmosphere and serves two roles. In normal running it provides the filtered fresh-air vent path that allows the canister to purge into the inlet manifold. During an engine-off diagnostic cycle it closes that vent, runs its internal vane pump to raise a small pressure in the sealed tank and vapour lines, and measures the current its motor draws. A calibrated reference orifice inside the module gives the baseline current that measurement is compared against, which is what allows a coarse leak to be distinguished from a fine one.
The result is reported to the engine management, which stores an EVAP fault and lights the malfunction indicator lamp when the system fails to hold pressure.
