Ride Height Sensor - Rear is the rotary position sensor of the electronically controlled suspension system.

The sensor body is fixed to the vehicle structure and a drop link couples its lever arm to the rear suspension arm, so suspension travel is converted into an angular position signal. The suspension control module reads that signal to determine instantaneous wheel travel and body attitude, and adjusts adaptive damper valving accordingly. On air suspension installations the same signal governs levelling and ride height selection.

Ride height sensors are calibrated to the vehicle, so a replacement requires the ride height calibration routine to be run with diagnostic equipment before the suspension will control normally.

What does the ride height sensor do?

What are the signs of a failing ride height sensor?
A failing ride height sensor on the Discovery Sport or Evoque L551 usually triggers a suspension fault warning, incorrect ride height, or erratic damping. Because the control module relies on its signal, a bad sensor can put the suspension into a fault or default mode.
Does a new ride height sensor need calibrating?
