EGR Cooler Filter for the low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation circuit of the 2.0L I4 Ingenium diesel engine.

The low-pressure EGR system draws exhaust gas from downstream of the diesel particulate filter and returns it to the intake ahead of the turbocharger compressor. This mesh filter sits in that path at the EGR cooler and traps the larger soot particles carried in the recirculated gas, keeping them out of the cooler matrix and away from the turbocharger intake.

A restricted filter reduces recirculation flow and disturbs the emissions control strategy. It is normally renewed together with cleaning of the low-pressure EGR cooler and the throttle body.
