Ceramic Glow Plug - cold-start heating element from the diesel pre-heat system, threaded into the cylinder head with the tip projecting into the combustion chamber.

Energised by the glow plug control module before and shortly after start-up, it raises in-cylinder temperature so that injected fuel ignites reliably at low ambient temperature. It continues to glow through the warm-up phase, steadying combustion and reducing white smoke and unburnt hydrocarbons before the engine reaches operating temperature.

The ceramic element reaches its operating temperature faster and tolerates a higher tip temperature than a conventional metal-sheathed plug. Fitted to the 2.0L AJ200D / AJ20D4 / AJ21D4 and 3.0L AJ20D6 diesel engines; not used on petrol engines.

Glow plugs are normally renewed as a complete set so that pre-heat is even across all cylinders.
