Rear Shock Absorber - hydraulic damper for the rear suspension, fitted between the body mounting point and the rear suspension arm.

The damper controls the rate at which the road spring compresses and rebounds, converting suspension movement into heat through a valved piston. It keeps the tyre loaded against the road surface over uneven ground and limits body roll, pitch and float under braking and cornering. Worn dampers show as continued body movement after a bump, cupped or uneven tyre wear, and longer braking distances.

Supplied as a single unit. Replacement in axle pairs is normal practice so damping stays balanced across the axle.
