Non-spillable construction retains the electrolyte when the battery is tilted, which allows it to be mounted in enclosed or minimally vented locations inside the body rather than in an open engine-bay tray. In plug-in hybrid applications this battery serves the electric powertrain's low-voltage supply rather than engine cranking.

Battery replacement on vehicles with intelligent charge control normally requires the new battery to be registered to the energy management module so that the charging strategy matches its state of health.
