The Evoque has two distinct generations. They share the Range Rover badge and the compact-SUV positioning, but they do not share platforms, do not share most major mechanical parts, and were built with different engine families.

The two platforms are not interchangeable. An L538 suspension component is not an L551 suspension component, and a control arm sold for one will not fit the other. The same applies across braking, drivetrain, and most body-related parts. Always identify the generation before ordering.

If your Evoque was first registered between November 2011 and the end of 2018, it is an L538. If first registered in 2019 or later, it is an L551. The L538 carried over into early 2019 in some markets as remaining stock cleared, so registrations from January to March 2019 should be VIN-checked rather than year-checked.
The L538 came in 5-door, 3-door (also called Coupe), and Convertible variants. The Convertible was built only for the 2016 to 2018 model years (a two-year production run), and many of its body, weather-seal, and roof-mechanism parts are unique to that variant. The L551 came as 5-door only.
The L538 split mid-production. Cars built up to the 2014 model year carry Ford-derived engines; cars from the 2015 to 2016 model year refresh onwards carry JLR's Ingenium family. Oil specifications and service intervals differ between the two eras. The L551 is Ingenium-only across the full production run, with MHEV (mild hybrid) and PHEV (plug-in hybrid) variants from launch.
Both generations carry the 17-digit ISO 3779 VIN. The 10th digit identifies model year. Cross-check against the official Range Rover Evoque vehicle page on landrover.com if you need to confirm specification against current Land Rover documentation.

Engine families overlap only in the Ingenium 2.0 litre block at the broadest level, and even there the ancillary fitments (turbo specification, sensor positions, harness routing) differ between L538 Ingenium and L551 Ingenium installations. Treat the two generations as separate vehicles for parts purposes.
Yes. The L538 Convertible was produced for two model years (2016 to 2018) and shares its drivetrain with the hard-top L538, so most service and drivetrain parts are common with the standard L538 catalogue. Convertible-specific parts cover the electric roof mechanism, structural reinforcement, and weather seals.
