Seals the joint between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head exhaust ports, containing exhaust gas and maintaining the clamped face through thermal cycling.

Renew whenever the manifold is removed - the gasket takes a set once heat-cycled and will not reseal reliably. Check the manifold face for distortion and inspect the studs and nuts for corrosion damage at the same time.
